In case you haven't noticed, I no longer use this blog. I've been in the process (very slow process!) of rebranding and switching over my blog. My website is just about done but I'm still working on my new blog. I hope to have a new link to you sometime this week. I'm looking for some fresh faces for my portfolio! I'm in the process of redoing my website/blog and I have some new ideas and props I want to try. If you're interested in a free session, read below to see if you qualify. Please pass this on to anyone who may be interested.

Who I am Looking for:
-2 newborns (less than 10 days old)
-2 maternity (between 30-34 weeks pregnant)
-2 toddlers (age 1-3 years old, preferably well-behaved and cooperative ;)

What You Get:
-a session with me at location of my choice (could be your home, my home studio or another location in the Richmond area)
-a free session with me, an online gallery of 20-25 of the best images from your session available to order from for 1 week and a free 8x10 of your choice

Requirements:
-you must be willing to sign a model release allowing me to use the images online, and for any advertising/marketing
-you must be willing to try new things, and allow me to choose poses, clothing and props

As most of you know, we've been expecting another little girl to arrive in November. I am pleased to announce that Londyn Soleil arrived on November 13 at 8:07 p.m. after only 2 hours of labor. She was born at home, weighing a whopping 10 lbs and measuring 22.5 inches. I am loving every minute with her and will be on maternity leave until January. Of course, Ms. Londyn has already had several photo sessions. I'll share a sneak peek for now and more in the days to come. Thank you so much for all your support and well wishes. I look forward to working with you all again soon!

Oh, how I adored doing this session. These babies were a double-dose of sweetness. Little Miss C was a pound bigger than her brother and had lots of dark hair. Little Mr. M was laid back and relaxed and had blond hair and amazing color. We did a marathon session (over four hours) but it was so worth it. Mom and Dad, congrats again on your perfect little miracle babies. I know you're over the moon :)

The Savvy Sisterhood Workshop

I can't believe the day is finally here. I will be leaving in a few hours for St. Michael's Md. for the Savvy Sisterhood workshop. Some of the biggest names in photography will be there spilling their secrets (some of my faves include Jodie Otte, Marta Locklear and Mika Beth Edwards). Check out our schedule:

Vendor Tradeshow begins at 12pm and closes at 5pm.

The Meet and Greet cocktail hour will be 6pm-7pm on the Miles View Terrace {outside}. This is the reception before dinner {no food will be served}...just drinks. This is where you will meet your big sis/ little sis and a chance to mingle before dinner.

At 7pm we will head inside to the Sherwood's Landing Restaurant for dinner. This is a seated 3 course dinner from award winning chef Mark Salter. At 9pm, we will head to the Commodore room for a hour presentation.

Monday morning we will start early~ 6-7 am breakfast {yes...very early} in Sherwood's Landing.
7am-5pm workshop {break for lunch around noon~ two breaks with a snack also}
7pm Sherwood's Landing~ sit down 3 course dinner

Casting Call!

Thank you to everyone who made my last casting call a success. We're going
to do this one more time. I have just gotten a new shipment of adorable
hats and I need two babies to work with (one boy and one girl, twins also
welcome). If you, or anyone you know, is about to give birth, or has a
baby under 3 weeks old, you (or they) could be eligible for a free newborn
mini session with Firefly Photography. Here are the requirements:

-baby must be under 3 weeks old (or under 12 lbs) or due to be born within
the next week (and parent must be willing to commit to complete the
session within a week of the baby's birth)

-you must be sign a model release for pictures to be used both on my
website/blog and in my vendor's etsy store (no identifying information
will be included)

-session will be free, and you will get the photographer's choice of one
full-resolution digital image to use however you would like

-you will have the option to purchase additional images from the session,
but aren't under obligation to purchase anything

-there will be no guarantee as to the number of pictures that will be
taken or the number of proofs that will be provided

-session will take approximately an hour, and will focus on photographer's
choice of poses and props only

-session will take place at my home studio in Midlothian, unless an

A New Year and a New Firefly Photography!

So I'm a little late in launching everything, but I wanted to make sure it was perfect (my site is still a day or two from being done, so be patient!). I've made some changes to my policies and structure, but I think you're going to be really happy with what I'm offering now.

I've changed my session fees to include digital images. These means that, at the very minimum, you'll get 1 digital image from your session along with a 5x7 reference print. You can use this image for cards, prints, gifts, almost anything you can imagine. You will also get a web version of the image(s) you choose, to share online (email, facebook, etc). You'll also have the option to upgrade to a session with more digital images, or even my top package, which includes all the images from your session. All digital images include a 5x7 reference print to help you see what your print should look like. I'll still be selling prints and products, along with some new add-on options. Little Mr. M was just a bundle of sweetness. At nine weeks old, I warned mom that we may not be able to get a lot of the cute "newborn" shots that she was wanting. Every Parents Worst Nightmare

I had to take a minute tonight to post a heartbreaking story. A designer/photographer friend of mine lost her dear little boy yesterday. Nate was 4 years old and contracted H1N1 which turned into pneumonia. I have worked with Tracy several times on my marketing materials and so has my husband. She has had a terribly difficult year and now is facing the unimaginable, burying her child. The family is struggling with the medical and funeral expenses and would appreciate any help that can be given. Please, if you can give anything, or even just share this information with everyone you know, then we can help her and her family with what they need. The last thing on their mind should be how they will afford to give their son a proper funeral. A memorial fund has been set up in his name.

Firefly Photography is starting a new tradition. Portraits in the Park is an opportunity for you to get your child's fall portraits done at an affordable price. Here's how it works:

1. Choose a time slot and pay your deposit.
2. Dress your child in their favorite fall outfit.
3. Show up at the park at your chosen time.
4. Sit back and relax while I capture adorable images of your little one.
5. Within a week you will receive a link to your gallery containing 5-10 of the best images from the session.
6. Choose the prints that you want and place your order.
7. Receive your prints within 2 weeks of ordering and smile at how easy it all was :)

Sugar and Spice

These two really showed that little girls are made of "sugar and spice and everything nice"! I had a great time working with Sweet Baby "A" and Big Sister "G". Baby "A" was the cutest, sweetest little 3 month old. She gave me nothing but smiles. While Miss "A" napped, I got to play with Miss "G", who loved my dress-ups and showing me her babies. It's a big pet peeve among photographers when someone says "wow, your camera takes great pictures". A camera doesn't take pictures, the person behind it does. As photographers, we invest a great deal of time, money (on education), and mental power in getting the perfect shot. Yes, we invest in good equipment to help us do our job, but a camera doesn't take a great picture any more than a good oven bakes a great cake! Now you know!

I had the pleasure of working with the "D" family on Friday. They waited to find out what they were having and to their surprise it was a little boy. Now they have one of each! Little "T" was a doll. Summer Canvas Sale!

To celebrate the fact that summer is finally here, I am offering a Summer Canvas Sale. I haven't offered this sale before and it may be a while before I do it again. The sale includes all canvas sizes (ranging from 8x10 to 24x36). Anyone booking a session* and purchasing a canvas before midnight on July 31, 2009 will receive 25% off of each canvas. Duplicate canvases (meaning the second canvas, same size and print) will be 50% off. Please call or e-mail me to book a session or get a price list.

Speaking of booking sessions, June is the last month I am waiving my session fee. I have a few sessions left before the end of the month but they are booking up fast. The only exception is newborn sessions. If you've already spoken to me about setting up a newborn session, you will still receive the waived session fee. As of July 1 I will be charging my session fee of $75 which will cover my time and talent only.

2 Beautiful Princesses

I had so much fun working with "M" and "S" over the weekend. Their mommy has a special place in my heart because of helping me with my infertility :)

The girls were a little shy at first, but once they warmed up they were giving me beautiful smiles and even helping me find cool places to take their pictures. I kept telling them they looked like two beautiful princesses. Here is your sneak peek guys!

I had the pleasure of meeting "A" on Friday evening to capture photos of her second pregnancy. Being the crunchy, natural-birth mama's that we are, we hit it off right away :)We had a blast exploring Maymont and even getting kicked out of the park at the end of the evening (sorry about that! haha). The family chose not to find out the sex of the baby beforehand, so I thought a "?" would be cute!

Once again I am seeking some fresh faces. This time I am specifically looking for newborn girls. Here are the requirements:

-must be a girl ;)
- must be 1 week old or less
-must be due within the next 6 weeks
-parents must sign a model release

Here's what you'll get:

This past weekend I attended a workshop with one of my favorite newborn photographers. I've admired her work, her youtube tutorials, and stalked her blog for a while now. When I saw she was having a workshop in Maryland I knew I had to go. I went up to Boonsboro on Saturday and spent the day with Ana and a dozen or so amazing photographers. We had the opportunity to work with 2 newborns and a maternity model. I had a great time and learned so much. I shot over 100 pictures, but here's a few of my favorites:

I am looking for models between 32-36 weeks pregnant (if you are pregnant but don't fit into this time frame, call me and we'll see what we can work out).

Newborns
Newborns under 2 weeks old (especially girls), or women who are close to their due date and would like to schedule a newborn session in advance.

Children
I'm currently looking for boys and girls ages 5-10. Sibling groups welcome, too!

I had a blast working with little baby "T". He was my quickest newborn session yet, 1 hour 45 minutes. I couldn't believe it was such a breeze. Mom and Dad were so proud to have such a gorgeous little boy. Wouldn't you be?

Sleepy Bendy Newborn

I was so excited to have the chance to photograph baby "J" today. At just 5 days old, I was pretty sure he'd still be very bendy, and also very sleepy. Boy was I right. I couldn't have asked for his session to go any smoother. He snuggled, he slept, woke up for a little bit and went back to sleep. Just Wanted to Share My New Business Cards

I've had several things designed recently by Tracy at SugarLime Designs (www.sugarlimephotography.com). I had admired her work for quite some time and was so excited to work with her on my logo, business cards, blog header and postcards (still working on those). This is the design she came up with for my business cards. I can't wait to get them printed. Ok, I'm drooling now :)

A New Blog

I just wanted to welcome you to my new blog. I figured, all the other photogs are doing it, so I guess I should too! It will probably be another month or two before my website is up and running so this will help me to keep in touch with everyone.
